"Cuidado" Marcabru (tradução Augusto de Campos)

Direi logo sem tardança,
Para doer na lembrança,
Meu verso que não se cansa:
-Cuidado!-
Quem diante do Amor balança
Cansará de andar errado.

A velhice enruga o rosto,
Mas o Amor, sempre disposto,
A todos cobra o seu gosto:
-Cuidado-
Todos pagam esse imposto
Que nunca será quitado.

Amor é como a fagulha
Adormecida na hulha,
Que o fogo desembrulha:
-Cuidado-
Não pode fugir o pulha
Que pelo fogo é fisgado.

Direi do Amor como isca,
Que ora olha e ora pisca,
Ora beija, ora mordisca:
-Cuidado-
Será mais reto que risca
Se eu estiver ao seu lado.

Outrora o Amor era honesto,
Agora é torto e funesto,
É como um gato molesto:
-Cuidado!-
Ou te morde ou lambe, lesto,
Com língua de lixa armado.

Sua lei é traiçoeira,
Toma o mel e deixa a cera,
Só para si pela a pêra:
-Cuidado-
Para tê-lo na coleira
Melhor é vê-lo castrado.

Quem ao falso Amor se ata,
Com o diabo contrata,
Da o dorso à chibata;
-Cuidado!-
Quem muito se esgaravata
Acaba sendo escorchado.

O Amor nada tem de belo,
Mata a gente sem cutelo,
Deus não fez pior flagelo;
-Cuidado!-
Ao fero fará farelo
O Amor, se não for domado.

Amor faz ao modo de égua:
Todo o dia te carrega
E nunca mais te dá trégua;
-Cuidado!-
Que lá vai de légua em légua
Correndo desenfreado.

Eis como o Amor se aparelha:
Ele é cego e olha de esguelha,
Leve língua, atenta orelha;
-Cuidado!-
Morde mais doce que abelha,
Porém custa a ser curado.

Quem de mulheres é amigo
Com razão sofre castigo,
A Escritura diz comigo:
-Cuidado!-
Ficarás ao desabrigo
Se não fores avisado.

Marcabru, de Marcabru’a,
Foi engendrado em tal lua
Que sabe o Amor como atua:
-Cuidado!-
Ainda que do Amor não frua,
Não ame nem seja amado.

Fourth time around

DYLAN/ YO LA TENGO
"When she said,
"Don't waste your words, they're just lies,"
I cried she was deaf.
And she worked on my face until breaking my eyes,
Then said, "What else you got left?"
It was then that I got up to leave
But she said, "Don't forget,
Everybody must give something back
For something they get."

I stood there and hummed,
I tapped on her drum and asked her how come.
And she buttoned her boot,
And straightened her suit,
Then she said, "Don't get cute."
So I forced my hands in my pockets
And felt with my thumbs,
And gallantly handed her
My very last piece of gum.

She threw me outside,
I stood in the dirt where ev'ryone walked.
And after finding I'd
Forgotten my shirt,
I went back and knocked.
I waited in the hallway, she went to get it,
And I tried to make sense
Out of that picture of you in your wheelchair
That leaned up against . . .

Her Jamaican rum
And when she did come, I asked her for some.
She said, "No, dear."
I said, "Your words aren't clear,
You'd better spit out your gum."
She screamed till her face got so red,
Then she fell on the floor,
And I covered her up and then
Thought I'd go look through her drawer.

And when I was through,
I filled up my shoe, and brought it to you.
And you, you took me in,
You loved me then,
You never wasted time.
And I, I never took much,
I never asked for your crutch,
Now don't ask for mine".

Hoje decidi sair.

Tom Courtenay (BY yo la tengo)

Julie Christie, the rumors are true
As the pages turn, my eyes are glued
To the movie star and his sordid life
Mr. X and his old-suffering wife
I spent so much time dreaming about Eleanor Bron
In my room with the curtains drawn
See her in the arms of Paul
Say it, I can say no more
As the music swells somehow stronger from adversity
Our hero finds his inner peace
So now I'm looking for a lucky charm
With a needle hanging out of its arm

As time goes by I know it's gonna happen
I know it's going away
Gonna take its toll, gonna take its toll
Gonna take my time
And I'm thinking about the way things are
And I'm thinking about the way things were
Thinking about Eleanor Bron
And I'm thinking about a lucky charm
And I'm thinking about the needle
Oh, I'm thinking about the needle
And I'm thinking about...

Epitaph for my heart

Let this be the epitaph for my heart Cupid put too much poison in the dart

This is the epitaph for my heart because it's gone, gone gone

and life goes on and on a non and death goes on, world without end

and you're not my friend Who will mourn the passing of my heart

Will its little droppings climb the pop chart Who'll take its ashes and,

singing, fling them from the top of the Brill Building And life goes on,

and dawn, and dawn and death goes on, world without end and you're

not my friend

History?

VI

To articulate what is past does not mean to recognize “how it really was.” It means to take control of a memory, as it flashes in a moment of danger. For historical materialism it is a question of holding fast to a picture of the past, just as if it had unexpectedly thrust itself, in a moment of danger, on the historical subject. The danger threatens the stock of tradition as much as its recipients. For both it is one and the same: handing itself over as the tool of the ruling classes. In every epoch, the attempt must be made to deliver tradition anew from the conformism which is on the point of overwhelming it. For the Messiah arrives not merely as the Redeemer; he also arrives as the vanquisher of the Anti-Christ. The only writer of history with the gift of setting alight the sparks of hope in the past, is the one who is convinced of this: that not even the dead will be safe from the enemy, if he is victorious. And this enemy has not ceased to be victorious.

Cool kids II

The ocean breathes salty, won't you carry it in?
In your head, in your mouth, in your soul.
And maybe we'll get lucky and we'll both grow old.
Well I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I hope so.

Well that is that and this is this.
You tell me what you want and I'll tell you what you get.
You get away from me. (You get away from me) You get away from me.
Collected my belongings and I left the jail.
Well thanks for the time, I needed to think a spell.
I had to think awhile. (I had to think awhile) I had to think awhile.

Well that is that and this is this.
Will you tell me what you saw and I'll tell you what you missed,
when the ocean met the sky. (You missed, you missed)
You missed when time and life shook hands and said goodbye. (You missed)
When the earth folded in on itself. (You missed)
And said "Good luck, for your sake I hope heaven and hell (You missed, you missed)
are really there, but I wouldn't hold my breath." (You missed, you missed)
You wasted life, why wouldn't you waste death? (You missed, you missed)
You wasted life, why wouldn't you waste death?

Surplus

I've watched this movie a couple of times (literally), first, it seems that it is in favor of some politics that people still think is a legitimate left (specially in Latin America, of couse due to historical reasons), but I was mislead like there has been some misunderstandings on this movie, in fact tons of it. To begin with, is not a documentary but a sort of pseudo-docunentary, if you will, a movie-thesis (my favorite type of documetary, where/when the author doesn't pretend to be neutral, such as, Societé d'espetacle or Nós que aqui estamos por vós esperamos or Columbine), (un)fortunately, this very one, Surplus is even better because the author show his point of view, which is none of the characters of the so call left, have a solution because they're ahistorical, Fidel is shown, as well as, the CEO of microsoft, as dictator and the American Anarchist (blame for the events in Seattle) just wants what Rosseau, Proudohn and all the idealists wanted, or if you wiil , wants. The beauty of it isthat only one aspect of this struggle is undebatable, that is the crelty of capitalism. Last but not least, what annoys people, which is its form is clearly (at least to my mind) a critique on mass media, as well, because that techinique/ language is the same that is displayed 24X7 over and over, on and on and turn ourselves into plainly consumers - it seems like nobody paid attention to the subtitle of the movie.
